MVA slams Centre as over Rs 6 cr properties of CM Uddhav's brother-in-law seized in money laundering case

More than Rs 6 crore of a company owned by Uddhav Thackeray's brother-in-law has been seized. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized the properties of Shridhar Madhav Patankar in a money laundering case.

In a money laundering investigation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) confiscated assets worth over Rs 6 crore from a firm held by Maharashtra President Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's brother-in-law.

According to media sources, the ED has attached Thackeray's brother-in-law Shridhar Madhav Patankar's moveable possessions worth Rs 6.45 crore. The government agency has also sealed 11 residential flats at the Neelambari project in Thane, Maharashtra, owned by Shree Saibaba Grihanirmiti Pvt. Ltd. (owned by Patankar).

According to an official release, the Enforcement Directorate has obtained a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to attach 11 residential properties in Neelambari project in Thane of Shree Saibaba Grihanirmiti Pvt. Ltd.

Shridhar Madhav Patankar, Thackeray's wife Rashmi's brother, "owns and controls" Shree Saibaba Grihanirmiti Private Limited, according to the statement. Furthermore, the agency accused Patankar of being involved in a money laundering case and syphoning off cash that were "parked" in Shree Saibaba Grihanirmiti Pvt. Ltd. real estate projects.

A case is now being examined against a firm called Pushpak Bullion.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut stated that the ED has taken massive operations in states where the BJP is not in power.

"Shridhar Madhav Patankar is a part of our family; his relationship extends beyond Uddhav Thackeray." It appears that the ED has closed its offices in other large states, such as Gujarat.

In Maharashtra, everything is occurring. Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee's nephew, is also being harassed. "However, neither Bengal nor Maharashtra will yield," he told reporters.

"The Maharashtra populace is well aware of the Thackeray family... this is a perilous start to dictatorship." Winning four states does not entitle you to dominate the country. We're willing to go to jail, but we're also ready to fight for freedom and democracy in this country," he continued.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar attacked the administration, claiming that Central agencies were being utilised for political purposes.

"Until a few years ago, most people didn't know about ED, but it's now being misused so much that even people in villages are aware of it," he told reporters.

The development comes just days after the Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government claimed that the Centre had "assigned targets" to central investigative agencies, including the ED, to act in a vengeful manner against the Maharashtra government.

Anil Deshmukh Nawab Malik, former Maharashtra Home Minister, had already been detained in separate money laundering instances by the ED. Malik's judicial custody has been prolonged by 14 days until April 4 by a Special PMLA.

The ED arrested the 62-year-old politician in a pre-dawn raid on February 23 in connection with an alleged money-laundering case stemming from a corrupt land deal involving mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar.
